CPTH Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Our department is one of the 7 hospitals in the country headed and supervised by an Australian Trained Emergency Medicine specialist and staffed with a variety of clinical specialists and health care professionals to manage all sorts of emergency presentations. Our Emergency Department compromises of 20 monitored beds, a separate resuscitation area for critically unwell patients, a fully equipped procedure room for treatment of minor injuries and a plaster area for management of simple fracture.

The Department is supported by round the clock pathology, radiology, Intensive care unit, Operation theatres and range of other specialty services to make sure timely and effective treatment is provided. Upon your entry to ED, you will be triaged by an experienced emergency nurse and your details will be taken by the ED Clark. Depending on your condition, after being assessed by our medical staff you may either require further monitoring in a short stay or hospital ward setting, or need to be transferred to another facility or you may be able to be discharged. We encourage you to talk to your treating staff about your care pathway.

Upon discharge from ED, you will be provided with instructions of your condition, discharge prescription, a follow up appointment/advice and letter of discharge. If you are admitted we will organize the necessary paper work /medications /investigations and pass on your care to one of the admitting specialist team of doctors. At CPTH ED we aim to provide patient focused treatment and will always welcome your feedback and suggestions.
